Alabama jumps Florida to No. 1 in AP poll

Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators hoped to become the third team in history to start at No. 1 in the AP poll, go undefeated, never lose the No. 1 spot and win the National Championship.  The only two teams that have done so were Florida State in 1999 and USC in 2004.  But after it took a last second field goal to beat Arkansas at home 23-20 yesterday, the Gators dropped to No. 2 in the AP poll, jumped by undefeated Alabama.  Alabama shut down South Carolina in a 20-6 victory.
