Georgia: Season Preview

The Bulldogs were preseason #1 last year, but ended up delivering a standard 10-3 season. This year with their star quarterback and runningback gone to the NFL, expectations are a lot lower. Which is exactly why Georgia could have a much better year. Since the Mark Richt era began Georgia has consistently done better when they were overlooked, and done worse when the expectations were high. But how good can they really be without Stafford and Moreno?
The Dawgs offense could be better this year than last, considering their young line now has some experience. While QB Joe Cox doesn't have Staffords arm, he is a very capable and talented player. He's also spent the last couple of years studying plays and learning the game more, which should make his decision making better than the young sometimes impatient Stafford. And while Georgia will certainly miss Moreno, they are still deep in their running game. And don't forget receiving phenom AJ Green is now a year older and likely even better than he was last year.
The defensive line suffered a terrible blow last year when DT Jeff Owens ended his season with an injury in the first game against Georgia Southern. The Dawgs were able to get a medical redshirt for the senior and he is back this year. The biggest problem for Georgia's defense this year will be a questionable secondary. We'll see early how good they are against the Oklahoma State passing game in the first game of the season.
The biggest problem for Georgia will be its schedule. No matter how good you are when you play a schedule that includes teams like Florida, LSU, Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech, you're going to have some losses. And considering the Dawgs can't beat the Gators even in the years where they have the better team, it is highly unlikely they will even compete with them this year. And lets not forget possible upsets to rivals like Tennessee and Auburn. But considering the low expectations that people have for Georgia this season, if the Dawgs can hold their losses to two or three, I think that will be a big win for the team. Then again those expectations could rise quickly if Georgia can pull off a win at Oklahoma State. We'll see soon enough.

All of us want to see the details of any legislative plan if there's going to be a legislative response, but Congress, I believe, is in the mood to do whatever it takes to win this war against terrorism.

It was Orwellian. I completely disappeared, and disappeared the same day. It was by early that evening when the Times story ran. That was an overreaction. All human beings under pressure behave poorly.

I always thought that it was every performer's dream. That's the epitome of being an artist, being able to express song, dance and acting in a live theatre setting and really connecting with an audience on that level.
