Oklahoma: Season Preview

With all the talk of a possible Texas and Florida match-up I'm afraid people might be overlooking Oklahoma.  Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford and 14 other starters return from a Sooner team that was good enough to win the Big 12 and make it to the BCS Title game last year.   And the Sooners will be looking for revenge against the Longhorns after last year's loss.

The Oklahoma offense includes a host of last years Sooner heros, including QB Sam Bradford, RB DeMarco Murray, and WR Ryan Broyles.  The offense averaged more than 50 points a game last year and this year might be no different.  The worry is that the defense could continue to allow points to be scored.  Last year the Sooners allowed 24.5 points per game, including 41 by Oklahoma State and 45 by Texas.  So the Sooners need their defensive starters to have improved dramatically this year.

Oklahoma has a pretty tough schedule starting against BYU.  But the two biggest tests will come against Texas on Oct. 17 in Dallas, and a home game against in-state rival Oklahoma State on Nov. 28.  Coach Stoops should also look out for possible upsets at Nebraska, and at Texas Tech.
