Tom Glavin to DC?

The Braves have released Tom Glavin just as he seemed ready to return to the majors following shoulder and elbow surgery, the Associated Press is reporting.  Sunday night Glavin threw six scoreless innings in single A ball, and told the organization that he was ready to return.  The Braves, however, decided to go with a younger pitcher and released the 305 game winner Wednesday.

Already eager rumblings have started among Washington fans, where the pitching staff could certainly benefit from Glavin's experience.  The Nationals have won only 14 games this season despite a very capable offense.  The Nats have made numerous moves to spark life into the pitching, with minimal success, and the pitching coach was recently replaced.  But, many Nats fans feel that the young pitching squad needs some veteran leadership.  Tom Glavin could certainly provide that.  Unfortunately for DC, thats a long shot.
